This characteristic allows aerogels to maintain good thermal insulation properties in humid or underwater environments, while traditional thermal insulation materials tend to have significantly reduced performance when exposed to water.

The extremely stable chemical properties and physical structure of airgel ensure that its thermal insulation performance will not significantly decrease over time under normal use conditions, and it can maintain efficient thermal insulation effect for a long time. However, traditional thermal insulation materials may suffer performance degradation due to aging, corrosion and other reasons during use, and need to be replaced regularly. In terms of economic costs, aerogel also beats traditional materials.
